It is easier than you think!
Everyone should have a hobby.
Mine is baking. Specifically, cookie decorating.
There is something about creating a little piece of artwork and seeing someone you love enjoy your art!
Let me show you how to glaze the “perfect” piece of art sugar cookie!
For a delicious glazed sugar cookie, gather your ingredients. (full recipe below).
On a floured surface, place about half your sugar cookie dough onto the surface. Using your adjustable rolling pin, roll out your sugar cookie dough. Use your favorite cutter for the design. (Careful, you may get addicted to collecting cookie cutters!)
Bake your sugar cookies at 350 for about 8 minutes until lightly golden brown. Let cool for one minute. Remove from cookie sheet until completely cooled. Be careful with delicate designs when removing from cookie sheet so your sugar cookies don’t crack or break.
Make your glaze. I like to use gel food coloring. It colors well without changing the texture or taste of the glaze. Use a “ten second” rule when mixing your glaze. Like this….
Using a rubber scraper, run it through your glaze counting to ten. If the glaze folds back into itself with no line after ten seconds, you have the right consistency.
For thinner glaze, add a drop of water at a time.
For thicker glaze, add a tablespoon of powdered sugar at at time.
Pour your colored glaze into your bottles. Put the caps on so your glaze doesn’t dry out.
Let’s start off with some simple designs.
Grab a sugar cookie to glaze. With your bottle, begin to outline your sugar cookie. Be careful not to touch the tip of the bottle onto your sugar cookie. It will create clogging on the tip of your bottle. After you have outlined your sugar cookie, fill in with glaze.
Do not add too much glaze, that it will run off the sides. I do not wait to fill (the professional term is called flooding) after the outline.
Using a toothpick or decorating “stick”, spread the glaze around to fill in the holes.
Immediately add your sanding sugar. The glaze is very forgiving. Pour on the sugar liberally and gently tap off the excess.
Let dry at least 2 hours.
The process of outlining and filling is so relaxing to me.
